ARCHITECTURE
This project involved transforming
an extinct mall into a museum. The
planning of a mall is based on a circular
movement pattern, perfect for the viewing
through a museum... if inverted. The
object of the mall building became an outdoor
space around which the 'display case' exhibit
buildings were designed. The interior ring
of the buildings was composed of a yin yang
promenade. Within the center of the large
landscaped area became a burried theatre
space... and large screens for outdoor
movie watching were located at each end
of the central yard. The project was
about a new dialog between what's experienced
as 'inside' and what is 'outside'. When
the intimate scale of the individual in
a museum meets the scale of the city scape
new ways of shaping architecture provide
new ideas for making contemporary public
spaces.
