ARCHITECTURE

The town of Grand Haven, nestled
along Lake Michigan, the largest
lake in the country, is one of
western Michigan's historical
time capsules. During the summer
months the quaint main steet comes
alive with tourist traffic from
the coast and second home owners
from Chicago. This facade project
takes the building that's housed
some of the most famous artists
from the midwest and beyond and
restores it to its original design.
The unique feature for the new
facade will be an operable canopy
that will rotate with the changing
direction of the sun light throughout
the day. This canopy, implementing
sustainable strategies, will control
the passive heat gain within the
interiors, the natural light, and the
amount of reflection on the facade
windows.
